CHU CHA DAN FAN

When translated into English, the original Chinese name for Cuchadanfan, “粗茶淡饭”, means “rough tea and plain rice”. This phrase not only describes restaurant’s food, but it also encompasses the lifestyle that the owners wish to share with their customers. New Office was invited to remodel the existing space and design a joyful, youthful, and inviting atmosphere for friends and family to enjoy good, simple food.

In the main dining space, abstracted yellow tea mountains and green rice fields wrap around the walls, surrounding the customers with the two key factors of the restaurant: tea and rice. The mural continues down the back hallway, connecting the main dining room to the private dining rooms. Remaining elements, such as the lighting design, booth design, and interior finishes are then carefully selected to complement the mural and the theme of the restaurant.

This project is located in Chicago, IL and is currently in the design phase.
